About Us

For over twenty years I expressed my passion for greeting cards in the elaborate handmade cards that I designed for family and friends. Now I have transferred that passion into the cards I design for you, the consumer.

A Zimbabwean writer once wrote, "I'd try to look for myself in the books that I read, but I didn't find me." That's exactly how I felt; I tried to find myself in the African-American greeting cards that I saw, but I didn't find myself either.

It's a Sista Thing!™ cards were created out of love for a friend. My best friend was going through some difficult times. I wanted to tell her how much I cared about her in an encouraging, natural-sounding greeting card that looked like we did - two diverse African-American women. The cards came to life after much prayer, hard work, late nights, early mornings and support from all my family and friends. A Divine Hand assisted me in the entire process; from the initial idea to the finished product that you see on these pages. I'm so pleased with the result, and it is obvious that consumers are too! The cards touched the hearts of Essence readers who sent me e-mails from all over the U.S. and abroad, who were excited to see themselves in these "sister-friendly" cards.

It's a Sista Thing!™ cards made their debut in 1999 and have been featured in Essence (March 2000), The New York Daily News (March 2000), The New York Amsterdam News (July 2001), WB Ten O'Clock News, WLIB radio program, 'Wake Up New York', WNYW Good Day NY, Drum TV and industry publications such as Giftware News and Greetings Etc. And in 2001, the Greeting Card Association named us a winner of the prestigious LOUIE award in their 13th annual International Greeting Card Competition! We won the award for our Sojourner Truth card, which features a powerful poem entitled, "Your Spirit Will Not Be Broken."

Creating these cards has been a labor of love and a journey of faith. It is my hope that It's a Sista Thing!™ cards will connect African-Americans to one another in a meaningful and positive way.
